Worcestershire-Infused Orange Chicken: A Flavorful Spin on a Classic
I’ve always loved to eat orange chicken but I never knew what the orange meant in the name! As I’ve learned, I now know that the orange is actually orange juice. Making my own was fun to do especially substituting the ingredients. You should give this version a try!
Orange chicken
Ingredients:
1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
2 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Sauce:
1/2 cup orange juice (fresh or store-bought)
3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/3 cup Honey
1 tbsp Apple Cider vinegar
1 tsp grated ginger
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (for thickening)
Instructions:
Setup the fryer:
Set the burner on the stove to medium heat. Add oil to a skillet.
Prep and cook the Chicken:
Get a bowl ready by adding in a egg, stir it and mix the chopped chicken pieces. Now add the flour, cornstarch, and seasonings. Shake the bowl so the chicken pieces aren’t stuck together. Place pieces in fryer, cook 3-4 minutes on each side and set aside on paper towls when done.
Make the Sauce:
In a wok, add in your sauce ingredients. Mix them together with a spoon. Set the burner to Medium-low.
Sauce the chicken:
Add in the chicken pieces and stir them in the sauce. Let the sauce/chicken cook for 3 minutes.
It’s time to eat:
Let it cool for 2 minutes and enjoy!
